The vast majority of teachers opposed...and I think "safety" wasn't the...
...primary issue for most. I think they're worried about having a significant number of kids that are attending now go to full remote. I think they're worried about the total chaos that making this plan work is going to create. I think they're worried about what effect a full 6 hour day of screen time will have on the remote kids. I think they're worried about losing some good teachers to retirement/resignation. I think they're worried about this ridiculous plan for lunches. I think a lot of them are pretty damn close to the breaking point, and another difficult change is going to detail a few.
I hope it works as well as you think. Both my personal kids are pretty upset about the change but they'll adapt. I think I just mostly question the timing. I think I read there will be about 35 school days after the change, many of which will be testing days. Seems like a huge effort for very little upside and the potential for a ton of unintended consequences.
